Madeline Black

Hi, I’m Madeline – founder of Sonder Peninsula Psychology.

I am a generally registered psychologist with experience across a range of government and non-government settings, including schools, private practice, aged care, disability services, hospital out-patient programs, and prior to establishing Sonder, within forensic mental health supporting young people involved with the justice system. I was part of a specialised team (Multisystemic Therapy, Ozchild) delivering intensive, evidence-based interventions for young people and their families. Through this work, I developed experience working not only with entire family systems, but also with the broader ecology surrounding a young person—including their individual context, peer networks, community, education, and employment settings. A key area of growth for me was learning how to deliver therapy in a culturally responsive and safe way when working with families from diverse backgrounds. This included developing skills to work effectively via interpreters by seeking guidance from cultural leaders and communities across Victoria’s south-east.

After several years as a frontline therapist, I stepped into a leadership role as a Clinical Supervisor. I find great purpose in supporting other clinicians to grow their practice and deliver meaningful, lasting change with the young people and families they support. I also bring a strong interest in using data and outcome measures to guide reflective practice, service development, and improve client care.

At Sonder I have built a wealth of knowledge running a small business and working collaboratively with a broad range of clients and their care teams. I graviate towards modalities and interventions including CBT, ACT, MBCT, Schema Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, MST and Somatic Therapy.

I would love to learn about your practice, interests and to share ideas and knowledge that help us all grow as clinicians.
